Qpisemi Announces AI 2.0 Processors Based on its Innovation in Integrated Photonics and Newer Software Paradigm

Green and sustainable Technology: There is a sustainability angle to this innovation from Qpisemi. There is study in 2019 that points, that training a certain deep neural network for NLP (natural-language processing) produced five times the CO2 emissions typically associated with driving an automobile over its lifetime. Apart from this, intelligence modeling using neurons has large limitations. Addressing these two issues with AI20P solutions stack can make it greener and most efficient AI technology in the world. Silicon Photonics process research: Qpisemi has an objective to create innovations in process research and fabrication. Silicon photonics-based process research will immediately yield results for its product such as AI20P. Qpisemi research in integrated photonics device is also aimed at improving reliability and hence shifting to lower process nodes.

Dr Nagendra Nagaraja revealed, “AI 2.0 is more advanced technology than current DL/ML technologies available. AI 2.0 would enable efficient actionable information generation in real time, that would match close to human intelligence at certain tasks at the edge. AI 2.0 would model emergent behavior accurately which is not possible current with DL and ML technologies. This would enable accurate modelling of megastructure like spread of pandemic, economies, transportation networks, advanced metaverse applications and advanced manufacturing. AI 2.0 will have immense effect on manufacturing, advanced metaverse applications and it would change the way we handle supply chain. Number of mathematical operations required in AI 2.0 and latency requirement of these operations cannot be met by current electronics-based ML processors and GPUs. We need something that is much faster. Matrix multiplications in photonics domain is 100x faster than in digital regime. Photonics domains offer massive parallelism that is required for AI 2.0. Photonics is the future of AI. Arithmetic operations in photonics domain using light almost consumes no energy and it is 100x faster, generate very less heat. Amount of energy consumed by current GPUs, ML training and inference chips are unsustainable, and we do require processors which consumes lower energy and provides large throughput that is required for AI 2.0. However, problem with silicon photonics chips is that they are large, integration with electronics is a challenge. We have innovation to address both of these issues. We have technology to scale photonics chip from data centers to edge.”

Dr Nagendra Nagaraja further said, “Although silicon photonics computational layer and design to miniaturize is major driving factor for AI 2.0 technology enablement, we have to design new kind of compilers, software libraries, newer application interfaces, also newer system engineering techniques to enable AI 2.0.”

Qpisemi has built strong team for silicon photonics and is currently hiring for hardware and compiler design. It is expected to have 50+ strong engineering and research by Q4 of 2022 and is expected to have first sample of AI20P available by end of 2022 or early 2023, sampling with key customers. In 2022 Qpi Technology (parent of Qpisemi) subsidiaries QpiAI and SuperQ are all scheduled to tapeout multiple chips and hardware to feed into market demand for quantum chips and quantum communication.

Huawei partners with CSA to fortify cyberspace and promote cybersecurity awareness among local enterprises

 

Singapore: help businesses, organisations, and enterprises in Singapore strengthen their cybersecurity posture, the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) launched its new SG Cyber Safe Partnership Programme at the Singapore International Cyber Week (SICW) 2021 where global leading ICT provider Huawei is one of the ‘Advocate’ partners.

Guest of Honour for the event, Minister of State for Communications and Information, Mr Tan Kiat How, presented CEO of Huawei International, Mr Foo Fang Yong with an appreciation plaque to officiate the partnership between CSA and Huawei, as part of CSA’s SG Cyber Safe Partnership Programme. This programme is part of the broader Safer Cyberspace Masterplan launched by CSA in 2020, to raise the nation’s overall level of cybersecurity.

Coming on board the programme as an Advocate, Huawei will have a stronger and deeper level of collaboration with CSA, through co-developing programmes and conducting enterprise outreach that complement SG Cyber Safe initiatives. Huawei will work with CSA to jointly organise webinars for local enterprises on imperative cybersecurity topics, such as enterprise data backup and data protection. To raise cybersecurity awareness among local businesses and the wider community, Huawei will also develop informational social media content to be published on the company’s Singapore Facebook and LinkedIn channels.

As part of the collaboration, Huawei is also participating in industry consultations with CSA to contribute feedback on CSA’s proposed approach for the SG Cyber Safe Trustmark and mark of cyber hygiene.

IBM Unveils New Generation of IBM Power Servers for Frictionless, Scalable Hybrid Cloud

IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced the new IBM Power E1080 server, the first in a new family of servers based on the new IBM Power10 processor, designed specifically for hybrid cloud environments. The IBM Power10-equipped E1080 server is engineered to be one of the most secured server platforms and is designed to help clients operate a secured, frictionless[iii] hybrid cloud experience across their entire IT infrastructure.

The IBM Power E1080 server is launching at a critical time for IT. As organizations around the world continue to adapt to unpredictable changes in consumer behaviors and needs, they need a platform that can deliver their applications and insights securely where and when they need them. The IBM Institute of Business Value’s 2021 CEO Study found that, of the 3,000 CEOs surveyed, 56% emphasized the need to enhance operational agility and flexibility when asked what they’ll most aggressively pursue over the next two to three years[iv].

Many see the answer to this need in a hybrid cloud computing model, which combines on-premises resources with cloud-based infrastructure and can offer up to 2.5x greater value than a public cloud-only approach[v]. However, not all hybrid cloud models are designed equally.

"When we were designing the E1080, we had to be cognizant of how the pandemic was changing not only consumer behavior but also our customer's behavior and needs from their IT infrastructure," said Dylan Boday, VP of Product Management for AI and Hybrid Cloud. "The E1080 is IBM’s first system designed from the silicon up for hybrid cloud environments, a system tailor-built to serve as the foundation for our vision of a dynamic and secure, frictionless hybrid cloud experience."

The new IBM E1080 was designed to introduce several key features including:

•  Enhancements for hybrid cloud like planned industry-first, by the minute metering of Red Hat software including Red Hat OpenShift and Red Hat Enterprise Linux, 4.1x greater OpenShift containerized throughput per core vs x86-based servers[vi], and architectural consistency and cloud-like flexibility across the entire hybrid cloud environment to drive agility and improve costs without application refactoring. 

•  New hardware-driven performance improvements that deliver up to 50% more performance and scalability than its predecessor the IBM Power E980[vii], while also reducing energy use and carbon footprint of the E980, allowing customers to do more with less. The E1080 also features four matrix math accelerators per core, enabling 5x faster inference performance as compared to the E980[viii]. 

•  New security tools designed for hybrid cloud environments including transparent memory encryption so there is no additional management setup, 4x the encryption engines per core, allowing for 2.5x faster AES encryption as compared to the IBM Power E980[ix], and security software for every level of the system stack. 

•  A robust ecosystem of ISVs, Business Partners, and support to broaden the capabilities of the IBM Power E1080 and how customers can build their hybrid cloud environment, including a record-setting performance for SAP® applications in an 8-socket systemii. IBM is also launching a new tiered Power Expert Care service to help clients as they protect their systems against the latest cybersecurity threats while also providing hardware and software coherence and higher systems availability.

This is designed to help clients avoid the prohibitive costs and time required associated with refactoring for a different architecture.

The IBM Power E1080 also has the capability to scale instantly with Power Private Cloud for Dynamic Capacity, allowing users to scale up and down with unused CPU capacity as needed and only pay extra for the additional resources they used. This can help improve operational efficiency and flexibility while avoiding server sprawl and lengthy procurement processes by bringing a cloud-like payment model to the data center.

Further enhancing the cloud-like economics for local hardware, the IBM Power E1080 is the first on-premises system planned to support metering by the minute for both Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat OpenShift, extending capabilities already available on IBM Power Virtual Server. Together, this is designed for even greater customer control of when, how, and where their applications are deployed.
